In a pan add 1 tablespoon of butter / ghee and add paste of 5-7 garlic cloves and pinch of asafetida powder. Add about ½ cup of grated fresh coconut and stir for a minute. To this add 2cups of washed rice and roasted black gram. Heat till all ingredients are mixed well. Add 3 cups of water and place a lid on the pan. Bring to boil and simmer till the rice is cooked.
